A Practical Chess Board-Vision Routine
Board vision drills train your ability to see squares, lines, diagonals, and piece movement quickly.
Practice method
Start by naming a square, then trace a file, rank or diagonal from it. Next identify the squares a piece attacks without moving it. Alternate board orientations so coordinate recognition does not depend on a single view. Finally calculate a short line and check the final position on the board.
Avoid this habit
Do not measure improvement only by speed. If pieces disappear from your mental position or you reverse pawn direction, shorten the exercise and rebuild an accurate picture before increasing difficulty.
Training goal
Make the board feel automatic so you spend less energy finding squares and more energy thinking chess.
