Bishop Fork
A fork or double attack creates two threats at the same time, so the opponent cannot answer both.
What to look for
Look for checks or attacks that hit the king, queen, rook, loose pieces, or mate threats at once.
Recognize the mechanism
Trace both diagonals through the bishop’s destination. Targets must be reachable along unobstructed rays; two pieces on the same color are only a clue. Look for a move that creates simultaneous pressure rather than merely collecting a piece left after an earlier tactic.
Common practical mistake
Do not count a target hidden behind a blocker as directly attacked. Distinguish the bishop’s current move from the payoff of a combination that happened earlier.
