Knight Fork
A fork or double attack creates two threats at the same time, so the opponent cannot answer both.
What to look for
Look for checks or attacks that hit the king, queen, rook, loose pieces, or mate threats at once.
Recognize the mechanism
Start from the intended knight square and mark its L-shaped attacks. A checking fork is especially forcing, but the knight must be able to reach the square legally and survive long enough for the second threat to matter.
Common practical mistake
Knights jump over pieces, not over tactical consequences. Before playing the fork, inspect captures of the knight and the opponent’s checks.
